Bangladesh PM returns home wrapping up India tour

Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina returned home Sunday night wrapping up her four-day official visit to India that saw the signing of seven bilateral documents between the two countries.

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the prime minister and her entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:35pm.

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, liberation war affairs minister Mozammel Huq, prime minister’s security affairs adviser former major general Tarique Ahmed Siddique and principal coordinator on SDG affairs at the prime minister’s office Md Abul Kalam Azad, among others, received her at the airport.

Earlier, India’s women’s development and child welfare state minister Deboshree Choudhury and Bangladesh high commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali saw her off at Palam Air Force Station in New Delhi.

The prime minister attended the India Economic Summit 2019 of the World Economic Forum in October 3-4.

During the visit, Hasina also held a bilateral meeting with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and met with Indian president Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday.

The two prime ministers jointly launched three bilateral development projects and witnessed the signing of seven bilateral documents.

Indian National Congress president Sonia Gandhi, accompanied by former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh and Priyanka Gandhi, met with Hasina at Taj Mahal Hotel on Sunday.

Besides, Indian external affairs minister S Jaishankar and deputy prime minister of Singapore Heng Swee Keat met with the prime minister.

During her stay in New Delhi, Hasina received Tagore Peace Award 2018 in recognition of her contributions to maintaining regional peace and prosperity.

The Asiatic Society, Kolkata honoured the prime minister with the award.
